Wentworth Tennis Director, Stephen Day, oversees the comprehensive tennis program at Waverley College’s senior school campus on Birrell Street, Waverley. The program spans from Year 5 through to Year 12 and is structured to support both the development of individual players and the success of school teams competing in the CAS (Combined Associated Schools) competition. Weekly team training sessions are held for students across all year groups, focusing on technical skills, match strategy, and physical conditioning to prepare them for Saturday matches. Waverley College competes against a strong roster of schools including St Aloysius, Barker College, Cranbrook School, Knox Grammar School, and Trinity Grammar School, along with additional fixtures against other schools on an informal basis. During the summer months, the Junior School tennis program is also in full swing, providing younger students with regular training and match play opportunities. Their Saturday fixtures include respected opponents such as St Patrick’s College, Sydney Grammar, Riverview, The King’s School, The Scots College, and Shore. This well-rounded program offers players of all ages a clear pathway for progression, fostering a competitive yet supportive environment where students can thrive both on and off the court.
The teachers at Woollahra Public bring their students to our centre each Friday for their weekly sports session. Our coaches run the kids through their paces and teach them the fundamentals of the game of tennis from beginner level, up to the more advanced players in an enjoyable environment. Our tennis program with Woollahra Public offers students of all skill levels the opportunity to develop their tennis abilities in a supportive and inclusive environment. Led by experienced coaches, the program focuses on building foundational skills, promoting teamwork, and fostering a love for the game. The program is designed to be accessible, encouraging all participants to enjoy the sport and gain confidence both on and off the court.
Ascham School is a regular and valued visitor to our tennis centre at Trumper Park, bringing their teams each term throughout the year for both training sessions and competitive play. During the summer season, Ascham's tennis teams play their weekly Saturday matches at our venue, competing against other girls' schools from across Sydney. These matches are a highlight of the season, showcasing great sportsmanship and a high level of skill. Throughout the week, the girls, accompanied by their dedicated coaching staff, make the short walk from their school to our centre for focused training sessions designed to sharpen their technique and prepare them for match day. A highlight of our calendar is the annual Ascham Tennis Day, a vibrant and enjoyable event that brings together players and their families for a fun-filled day of tennis and community spirit at our facility. We're proud to support Ascham’s tennis program and be part of such a longstanding and positive relationship.
We also enjoy a strong partnership with SCEGGS Darlinghurst, another prominent girls’ school that regularly brings their students to our tennis centre for training and match preparation. Each week, the girls arrive full of energy and enthusiasm, ready to refine their skills ahead of their Saturday fixtures. Our coaching team works closely with the players to cover all the essential technical and tactical fundamentals, ensuring they have a solid foundation to build on. From perfecting their serves and footwork to developing match strategies and teamwork, the training sessions are tailored to help each player grow and reach their next level. Whether they are new to the game or already competitive athletes, our goal is to provide a personalised, supportive, and engaging tennis experience that benefits both individual development and team performance. The collaborative spirit between SCEGGS and our coaches helps create a positive and productive environment that fosters improvement, confidence, and a genuine love for the sport.

Tennis Hot Shots, Tennis Australia’s official kids’ starter program, follows the worldwide trend towards modified competitions for kids to help them learn to play tennis. The program targets kids 5-12 years of age who are not yet able to play competitive tennis on a full sized court with a regular tennis ball. We are Tennis Australia Endorsed Hot Shots Provider. This program is a great way to introduce tennis to school students and we have programs ranging from kindergarten through to year 6. Take the worry out of arranging transport and wet weather and have our qualified coaches come to your school and set up Hot Shots for you.
The Hot shots program concentrates on kids actually playing real tennis matches in a fun and competitive learning environment which nurtures both tennis related and personal development. The Hot Shots program makes playing the game very achievable for kids with the use of modified balls, courts and racquets. By using the modified equipment kids will benefit from improving their ball tracking, getting into position, controlling, and co-ordinate there body to execute their strokes and at the same time learning to put together sequences of shots, maintain a rally, how to out play an opponent by varying shots, and how to maintain consistency and concentration levels throughout a match. This will in turn help with their confidence and self esteem.
We are especially excited to be offering this program as we feel it opens up the game of tennis to younger players whose only option previously was to have tennis coaching lessons. As such, we think the Hot Shots program will be the perfect compliment to any tennis coaching already undertaken as it gives them an opportunity to put the skills they are learning into practice as well as learn new skills that will therefore hasten their progress in the sport.
